The Institute held its 2nd members meeting for 2025 at Mazar's offices alongside ACAMS and Stop the Traffik for a special session on modern slavery and human trafficking within financial services. There was an overwhelming level of attendance and engagement on this important topic especially given the focus in the UK from a sanctions designations perspective (to include trafficking gangs) and also within the US regulatory regime in the context of the Foreign and Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).
There was an expert panel of Ruth Paley, John Binns, Liliya Gelemerova, Nick Dale and Geradine Lawlor. Details of their background and current experience can be found below:

The session covered many areas ranging from:
1. Legal and Regulatory landscape
2. Typologies within operational framework and alignment with current financial crime frameworks
3. Modern Slavery as a predicate offence under Proceeds of Crime Act
4. How to incorporate modern slavery and human trafficking typologies into investigations and NCA disclosures, and how it overlaps with other predicate offences such as AML and Fraud.
5. Role of regulators and law enforcement
6. Horizon scanning
The Institute was honoured to lead on this with ACAMS to give focus to such an important topic impacting the UK, and the role of financial services it its risk identification and management. There was great debate and even better hosting from Mazars with their generous refreshments.
We will continue to follow up on this with another workshop, if you are interested in attending and being involved please email [email protected].
The Institute is honoured to announce they will be producing guidance human trafficking and modern slavery within financial services alongside our partners, Stop the Traffik in late Autumn. We will launch this closer to the time, so please watch out.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Annual Conference on 19 June and future members meetings.
