NAVEX has a long standing history in providing compliance, risk and governance technology solutions across the market with NAVEX One GRC Platform. They have recently become a sustaining member with the Institute. Therefore we recently caught up with Jan Stappers one of NAVEX's key senior regulatory solutions leaders.

At NAVEX, Jan supports organisations in operationalising those expectations through practical tools – from secure, confidential reporting channels to case management systems that drive timely investigations and defensible outcomes. These technologies help businesses reduce fraud risk, manage regulatory exposure, and strengthen financial crime prevention efforts. Further, he has helped many firms navigate complex and often fast-changing requirements around whistleblowing, fraud prevention and internal reporting. His focus is especially relevant now, as UK businesses prepare for the implications of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act (ECCTA).

He’s worked across industries and jurisdictions to support teams aligning with the EU Whistleblower Protection Directive and adapting to new expectations from regulators and stakeholders. His message remains consistent: when organisations build clear, credible internal reporting systems, they don’t just protect themselves – they strengthen culture.

“The most successful compliance programmes I see are the ones that are built around people,” Jan says. “Technology plays a role, but so does listening and creating a speak-up culture where employees know their concerns will be heard, handled well, and followed through.”

Lately, Jan’s work has centred on helping organisations interpret and apply ECCTA – particularly the new Failure to Prevent Fraud offence and changes to Companies House. He sees the Act as more than a policy change:

“ECCTA is not just a legislative update. It’s a shift in expectations,” he explains. “It asks organisations to be more intentional about detecting and addressing misconduct – and ensure their systems are ready to respond.”

Jan will be a panel speaker with Rob Cutler at the Annual Conference. We look forward to his insights. He will also attend our members meetings with his colleagues, so please look out for him and say hello!

NAVEX has a series of fantastic events coming up that we encourage her members to attend. Our Executive Committee member, Simran Bharaj will be speaking at :
