As firms continue to balance intensifying regulatory expectations with commercial pressures, one question is becoming increasingly common in boardrooms, and it’s one which will be familiar to many, with a firm focus on resourcing:

How should we resource our compliance team, and do we have enough resource to (i) meet regulatory requirements and (ii) satisfy regulatory expectations.  

For many firms, the answer is often subjective. Compliance teams can find themselves overstretched, Heads of Compliance and MLROs face growing demands with finite resources, and senior management are left without a clear framework for determining whether their compliance function is appropriately resourced. It can be a challenge to identify resource gaps, and even more so for MLROs to know how best to advocate effectively for increased resourcing.

This breakfast roundtable will explore practical ways that MLROs can instigate a productive discussion with the business about why and how to increase resourcing where required.  

Together, we will discuss how compliance leaders can:

  • Break down the activities performed by the compliance function using task decomposition.
  • Develop a practical and evidence-based approach to compliance resourcing
  • Build flexible resource models that can be adapted as business priorities and regulatory obligations evolve.
  • Link the Annual MLRO Report and Compliance Work Plan to a robust resourcing framework that supports meaningful discussions with boards and senior management.

As with previous forums, the discussion will be under Chatham House rules, and will feature an interactive format, and focused on the challenges currently facing compliance leaders, with practical advice about how to meet these challenges.
