The Institute is proud to announce its first MLRO Forum event in partnership with Michelman Robinson UK LLP, in the form of an exclusive private breakfast on the morning of Tuesday 24 February at the Wolseley City. This forum will bring together MLROs and Nominated Officers from across the regulated sector for a discussion on the topic ‘five things you didn’t know about SARs’ with Ruth Paley, Partner in Michelman Robinson’s Corporate Crime & investigations Team, and Dr Mario Menz, experienced MLRO and senior compliance professional with 20 years’ experience in financial services.
We are excited to welcome our MLRO guests for a relaxed morning discussing SARs over an a la carte breakfast, where we’ll share insights together following a short tour of some of the lesser known, but vitally important, aspects of the UK SAR and DAML regime. During the breakfast, we’ll explore five critical and frequently misunderstood aspects of suspicious activity reporting, moving beyond well-worn process to examine where real legal and regulatory exposure now lies. Topics will include the personal criminal liability of nominated officers, consent and moratorium mechanics under POCA and how recent ECCTA reforms have materially altered the use of DAMLs, thresholds and statutory exemptions.
This is a practical breakfast session aimed at professionals who already know the framework but want a clearer understanding of how the UKFIU, supervisors and enforcement bodies are deploying POCA and ECCTA provisions in the fight against financial crime, with a look at areas of risk exposure, and where regulatory scrutiny is increasing.
Registration is now open. If you would like to attend, please email [email protected] with your name, job title and company. All those who are successful will be notified by Friday 13 February, with a shortlist in operation thereafter.
Places for this inaugural breakfast are extremely limited, those who miss out on a place this month will automatically be afforded priority list for our next MLRO Forum in early May.
