We have recently held the sixth annual conference of the Institute of Money Laundering Prevention Officers (IMLPO).
Our annual conference provides an invaluable opportunity – for members and non-members alike - to learn about key
developments in the industry, discuss the implications for all involved, and share ideas and concerns with counterparts
from all areas of the AML arena. Now in its sixth year, it has become THE must-attend AML event in the UK calendar,
and we believe this is principally because it is a conference for AML practitioners by AML practioners.
This year our conference moved to a new venue, and we took this opportunity to make some changes to the event.
Our popular workshop breakout sessions were this year sector-specific, in response to requests from last
year’s attendees, so representatives of the various regulated sectors were able to share problems and concerns with
their direct counterparts. The sessions were facilitated by IMLPO members,
and took the form of a case study involving key issues arising in the area of PEPs and sanctions.
We reprised the panel sessionthat worked very well last year, but this year focusing on an issue that continues
to test everyone in all the regulated sectors: balancing AML obligations, client confidentiality and data protection requirements..
We were also very pleased to continue to present topical and insightful updates from the FSA, HM Treasury and
SOCA,as well as news on the latest developments in combating bribery and corruption, and terrorist
financing.
And, again, our conference dinner continued to play an integral part in the unique character of our conference.
It enables participants to network and get to know each other on a more social basis, to make new contacts and re-establish
existing ones.
We would like to thank all those who participated in our 2009 conference - and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
