the seventh annual conference of the
Institute of Money Laundering Prevention Officers
Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th May 2010
Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club
I am delighted to invite you to the seventh annual conference of the Institute of Money Laundering Prevention Officers (IMLPO).
IMLPO continues to provide the only UK forum that is truly representative of the many diverse sectors affected by anti-money laundering (AML) legislation. Our members are AML and financial crime prevention practitioners in firms large and small, including banks, building societies, insurance companies, investment management firms, securities firms, gaming companies, law firms, money transfer bureaux, accountancy firms, commercial finance companies, estate agents etc. We know the importance of sharing knowledge, experience, perspectives and best practice between practitioners from different sectors, and this philosophy underpins everything we do as an organisation.
Our annual conference provides an invaluable opportunity – for members and non-members alike – to learn about key developments in the industry, discuss the implications for all involved, and share ideas and concerns with counterparts from all areas of the AML arena. Now in its seventh year, it has become THE must-attend AML event in the UK calendar, and we believe this is principally because it is a conference for AML practitioners designed by AML practitioners.
This year we have again put together a programme that focuses on the really key issues facing our community now and going forward into the new decade. We are delighted to feature important updates from SOCA, West Midlands Police, HM Treasury and the Financial Services Authority. Our popular workshop breakout sessions this year concentrate on the issue of sanctions and PEPs, as this is of course an area that currently occupies so much of our time as practitioners and still causes much uncertainty about how to balance commercial realities with significant legal obligations. We have a panel session that looks at the real and immediate implications for all of us of the new bribery and corruption legislation, and the event finishes on a note that is both retrospective and forward-looking, when we ask some AML stalwarts what they think have been the key developments that have shaped our business over the past decade, and what they foresee for the next ten years.
And, again, our conference dinner continues to play an integral part in the unique character of our conference. It enables participants to network and get to know each other on a more social basis, to make new contacts and re-establish existing ones.
We would be delighted to welcome you to participate in and contribute to our seventh annual conference – and, of course (if you have not already joined), to become a member of our organisation.
We very much look forward to seeing you in May!
Kind regards
Steve Lock
Chairman
